Charcoal Thai - Mookata (Kovan)

Charcoal Thai
Helllo, I am back with some Thai steamboat aka Mookata!
Saw the deal on Groupon & I got the lunch deal! for 2
Came to pop by on a weekday lunch ^^
So we printed the voucher & showed to them...
What we were served with:
some crackers (which we innocently thought was inside the deal)/ a platter of meats & some vermicelli noodles
A clearer shot of the meats
Some crabmeats/ luncheon meats/ 3 prawns/ 2 types of meats/ hot dogs/ mushrooms/pig lard etc
Nom Nom Nom ^^

The best part about Mookata is the grilling part on the top hehehe
it was good the meat! I was hopping for an egg and some rice! >.<
yes I do eat a lot!
Overall, I would say $20 for 2 pax is pretty affordable & worth it considering how expensive it can go up to!
-----
Oh yes, we paid for the cracker which cost us about $1.60 which wasn't that awesome eh?
Service was ok cause we didn't really called for any service.
Was hoping for more veggies :( I love green leafy veg!
But man, the smoke made me stink so bad after eating it ughhh
Maybe dinner will be a better deal.

Personally I feel the portion was okay for 2 girls hahahaah
I guess this will be sufficient if you are small eaters if not, it's still manageable!
Heard about another mookata near Serangoon Garden gonna hop over there soon too.

Till then.

W.39 Bistro & Bakery

W.39 Bistro & Bakery
Good Morning, came all the way to the west side just to try this cafe!
Well not really, I happen to be around the central so decided to go somewhere further for some brunch!
It was pretty simple to get to here, just take a bus from Clementi & drop off a few stops after the row of shophouses opposite (it's on the right side towards the kfc direction).
& I think the owners has a cat too it's always around the door area

Some old school food on the counter hahahah
Ouuhhh ahhhh the cakes selection, I spy rainbow cake!

Okay, I haven't checked out the prices of the food here but I was a little surprised that it was a little towards $20-ish for the main dishes (those that was not under the Set Lunch)
So we decided to take the set instead since it's more for value!
Some lemon tea to cool myself down

-----
First up, soup of the day!
It was some sort of mashed potato soup, really thick like mashed potato
It's like too dry to be called soup but too watery to be mashed potato hahaahaha
Don't get me wrong it's my first time tasting soup like these, pretty unique and I quite like it too!
It comes with 2 little bread pieces which was so good with the soup!
It goes really well!! Yum Yum!

Next, our Pan-Fried Salmon ($21.90)!
Mashed potatoes topped the the pan-fried salmon, tossed with a side of salad!
Very neatly presented! I would say the salmon was pretty good!
You could taste that it was a little fried on the side but you can still taste the fish,
you know how some places they fry the entire fish and it just feels so oily, but this wasn't so bad!
It's a little different rendition from the usual smoked salomn from other cafes,
Okay but I admit I prefer grilled salmon more >.<

Next , the Macaroni & Cheese ($18.90)
Served hot & defintely a must-try for the mac & cheese lovers!
Some ham & shrooms topped with generous amount of cheese
Personally not a big fan of mac & cheese but I am sure this is pretty good!

Last of all, we ended the lunch with Carrot Cake ($6.80)
We contemplated for awhile before choosing this, deciding to get the rainbow cake or not.
Decided to go for something richer, like this instead!
It was well, okay but not the best I have tried.

Overall, I would say this cafe price range can go pretty steep,
Lunch sets are more affordable but not to worry there is also sides dishes or even salad here as well!
The ambience in the afternoon was good, it was spacious, definitely a place for a group of friends to gather or even for corporate lunch with colleagues!
The exterior was painted in a  blue with yellow, looking just like a bakery shop, kind of reminds me of Gardenia Bread loaf! hahahaha.
-----
The weekend menu looked really yummy, might pop by for a second visit for their weekend breakyy!!
What's your favorite dish here?

Cups & Canvas

Cups 'N' Canvas
& Good day to you , whoever you may be!
I am back with another cafe brunch today!
it's Cup & Canvas! Located along the lane where Kaplan is (opposite Selegie tau-huey area)
they even offer Art lessons for children and adults too!
That explains why there is so many art paintings on the top shelves, there's even brushes at the corner of the room~

So here is what we ordered:

here is our drink!!
I am always excited to see the latte art~! guess which is mine!?
Yes, you're right, the bear!! it's Sweet Potato Latte ($4.80)
they look especially cute partly cause of the lavender color!
So happy drinking it awww, warms my throat
there is little bits of the sweet potato at the bottom of the cup, i love those!

Next up, the Mango Chicken Sandwitch ($10.90)
it comes with a side of salad too.
Been ordering a lo of sandwich lately for my brunch eh hahahaha
yes I am an avid bread lover too, with a thing for eggs, but no there is only chicken here~
& this is the cross-section of the sandwich!
I would say it is pretty refreshing to have the slight mango taste as the sauce.
It was not too heavy, more of a light fresh aftertaste!
I think it's pretty good, a good try for the adventurous seeker~!

opps forgot to take picture of the other main.
my friend got her set lunch which is available on weekday from 12pm-2.30pm daily. (if i remember clearly)
It comes with a main, she ordered Sambal Fish with Olive & a cuppa of Latte for $10.90 only!
I've tried the fish, well the portion is pretty huge to begin with, generous amount of fishes!
hahahaah & it kind of taste a lot like the sweet and spicy thai kinda chili, one of my favouite sauce!
Sweet and not too spicy at the same time! The rice was healthy but doesn't have much taste so overall, a good deal to have if you're on tight budget or simply popping by for some quick fix!
it's nett price again! wheee :D

-----
Overall, this cafe is one that I will come back again.
The price of the food is pretty affordable & what better way to spend your afternoon with a good cuppa of drink & looking at the rustic tables and art pieces around~
I see students studying here as well, definitely a great way to lepak/mug with your friends here!

Craft Bakery & Cafe

Craft Bakery & Cafe

Good Morning, here on a cafe hopping day once more!
Tryna to keep this space alive again~ well, hopefully I can maintain this hahahha
Hopped over to Holland Village for some brunch & we decided to go with Craft Bakery & Cafe for a try!

fyi: the lunch deal is only from 12-2pm!
There is outdoor seating as well~!
the menu
Eventually we all decided to have some sandwiches~
Since this place is called a bakery we thought that their niche should be the sandwiches

-----
1. Mushroom Bacon Cheese ($12.30)
This is what I got:

so what's on the inside:
lotsa mushrooms, some bacons and chessy bits.
I love mushrooms!
The bread was pretty good too, crispy and a little hard too but it was heated a little so it wan't that bad

  -----
2. The Very Thick Toast ($9.20)
Basically this is what I call "what you see is what you get"
so there's mushrooms topped with an poached egg on a really thick toast..

I feel that this dish might be a little too plain, even though it might be just a toast, maybe they can add a side of salad to go along as well.
Because the toast is so big, you might get a little boring after a few bites and considering how dry it might be after awhile~
-----
3. Super Dog ($12)
My first impression was why does the bun looked a little burnt :0
So there is sausage topped with bacon and eggs mayo in the bun~
hmm it was average not too bad either!
My friend was having braces and she said it might be a little hard for her to bite, it was okay for me though hahhha so no worries!
The place is pretty spacious and definitely a place for big-group of friends to come here to chill
I like how there is also an outdoor saeting which is pretty shiok to sit especially on evening/night!

Overall, I would say it is a pretty average cafe, the food was pretty descent but not something I will crave for.
Maybe their pastas might be better, heard some raving about their molten lava cake!
Might come here for some sweets next time!

& Next we hopped over to 93 Degree Bean & Leaf for some sweets!
A place that looked like a really good place to study, lotsa leaffy green on the walls as well
the selection of cakes, brownies, macaroons~
the minis macaroons, which I didn't try~

After much contemplation, we decided to get the brownies with ice cream to share,
prices of the tea are almost a little too ridiculous in my opinion, for a cup of English Tea/ Earl Grey, it can goes up to about $7-ish for a cuppa  :(
Actually it is priced like Starbucks but no for tea, I don't usually order them if they are more than $5
----

so here is it, our vanilla & brownie!
Really chocolatyy, but luckily there is a corner where you can help yourself with water! :))
Once again, we felt that it was a little overpriced for this slice of brownie + ice cream.... meh
---
It was approx $11 for this below:

This place is more like a place to catch-up & a place to study.
Talking about conducive place to study I honestly felt this place is better for student to study than Starbucks, at east it wasn't that noisy...
you might want to pop over here for a mugging session, but the inside of the shop can get a little dark imo.

Symmetry

Symmetry

Hoped over to Symmetry for Brunch.
We went on a Thursday afternoon, nearest mrt station is Bugis, not very easy to find but luckily my friend knew the way here

Just beside the board, I spot the cat lazing around, closing it's eyes on a scotching day, the good life, oh yeah~

it's pretty cozy inside, with cushions and chairs and lots of decors.
I always prefer cafes with more decors hahaha talking about clean and simple.
I just feel more at home when a cafe is heavily decorated, makes me feel that the owner really wants their customers to feel welcome :D
it's wasn't very crowded as well, which is a plus point.
How I hate cafes with so much crowd making it difficult to have a good chat with friends.
I guess, one of the reason why it's not that crowded is because we came on a weekday afternoon~

-----
the Menu~
Initially we wanted to have the all-day-breakfast which we saw on their website, but we asked the waitress and to our surprise there are different menus, the one which I wanted was only for weekend:(
There is Weekend Menu, Monday Menu, Tue-Fri Luch & Dinner Menu.
Pretty confusing eh, anyway we decide to have something small to share instead of ordering a main which is pretty steep.
---

---
So this is what we ordered:
sinful much hahaah carbs & sweets, oh nevermind

-----
First we got a bucket of Truffle Fries $15.00
it was a pretty big bucket for 2, so it's better to have about 4 of your friends to share this if not it will really be to much for 2, but we almost finished it anyway hahaaha
It comes with mayo as well :))
I still prefer the truffle fries at SPR MKT (personal preference are hard to change)
Don't get me wrong the truffle fries are not too bad either! For the price and portion, it's quite worth it as well! Do give it a shot especailly if you have a group of friends dining together! :)

-----
Next, we ordered the Waffle $16.00
The waffle was served much faster than the truffle fries, but this is something I will recommend, the waffles are pretty good!
I like my waffle soft and fresh ^^
It is served with lots of cranberries and berries compote which suits me really well!
Berry fan here anyone? there is also a dash of nutella & peanut butter to go along too!

if only there were more ice-cream, yummm
-----

Overall, this is a pretty nice cafe to chill your afternoon away.
Service was okay too the waitress kept topping up my water so yay!
Their weekend brunch looks really good from the website, might pop by next time for some breakfast menu eh!!
An honest opinion, the price of the mains can be quite turn-off for me to re-visit here but I will still try them out when I do feel a little richer maybe.
Price can go even steeper for dinner meal so come for their weekend brunch or weekday brunch! :)
